Yahoo looking to become the default search engine on the iPhone
Yahoo is apparently in the middle of talks to become a default search engine in the Apple iPhone. The company is looking to benefit from the legal battle between the Cupertino giant and Samsung, which makes the vast majority of Android devices. As we all know, instead of going directly against Google, Apple's lawyers decided to fight Samsung.
It is said that Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer is working on the plan which is to be presented to Apple shortly. “Mayer has supposedly wrangled support from a few Apple execs including longtime acquaintance Jony Ive,” sources close to the matter are claiming.
Yahoo would certainly benefit from an onslaught of iPhone users who more often than not stick to the default search engine. Yahoo, which actually uses Microsoft's Bing service for search results, is available on the iPhone and iPad, but users have to manually select it. Google is a default option, the benefit that apparently costs up to $1 billion per year.
In recent months, Yahoo has been pushing hard in the mobile space and has returned to the path of growth. A deal with Apple would be the crown achievement for the current CEO who came from Google to head what used to be the world's most popular website.
